2008 Kahungunu Kapa Haka Competition
On Saturday 1st of March at Waikoko Gardens, Hastings provided a wonderful setting for Kahungunu’s senior kapa haka competition, attracting 200 performers from five competing groups.
The groups were:
Ngati Ranginui
Kahungunu ki Heretaunga
Parearau
Nga Rapa a Taunga
Te Rerenga Kotuku
The event was hosted by the Runanga Arts & Culture Board to “Promote and support participation and excellence in traditional performing arts in Kahungunu”.
All group performances were outstanding. Congratulations to all participants…!
The Overall First Place winner was Te Rerenga Kotuku from Wairoa and Overall Second Place winner was Ngati Ranginui from Tauranga.
They will go forward to represent Kahungunu at the National Te Matatini Festival being held in Tauranga between the 19- 22 February 2009.

This was a good day for whanau hapu to enjoy time together in a wonderful setting. Although it rained, it didn't deter the audience from the kaupapa of the day. |
