ANNUAL REPORT 2009-2010

The 2009-2010 Annual Report development is underway. A draft annual report will be sent out for perusal at the next meeting on Friday 15th October.

ANNUAL PLAN REPORTING 2010-2011

The 2010-2011 Annual Plan has been implemented for NKII Board member reporting. The report includes an update of activities that have taken place over the month. The Annual Plan is available for viewing online at www.kahungunu.iwi.nz or a copy can be printed and sent to whanau on request.

LOCAL BODY ELECTIONS

Information has been gathered about the Maori Candidates standing for the different elections up and down the Kahungunu rohe. Ngati Kahungunu Iwi Inc will support each candidate by way of profiling through our iwi networks. Key messages include building awareness, profiling the Maori candidates and showing support.  The NKII Board is keen to engage with each of the newly elected Councils and Mayors and discuss with them our relationship and issues.  For the next election in 2013, the board is keen to look at identifying candidates who will support the iwi and articulate iwi issues.

KAITOKO WHANAU UPDATE

  • Tu Mai Review -  Hawkes Bay District Health Board Maori Health Strategy

 The first draft copy of the Tu Mai HBDHB Maori Health Strategy Review was presented to the iwi Board. The iwi Board is keen to engage with the new HBDHB Board to ensure a good relationship exists to encourage change. The Board have a month to view the Review and offer feedback. A copy of the draft Review is available on request by phoning the iwi office: 8762718. The final review will be approved at the 15 October Board Meeting.   

  • Tobacco

The Board approved that a letter to tobacco retailers be sent out through iwi media networks. A certificate has been created to present to retailers who remove tobacco displays and tobacco completely from their stores. Board member Owen Purcell presented the first Kahungunu – Living Longer Tobacco Free certificate to Mike Bird – Hair and Tobacconist in Wairoa, who, on his own accord chose to remove tobacco from his shop. A profile of Mike appeared in the August iwi newsletter. Key messages will be formed to present to the public.

FINANCIAL REPORT

The NKII subsidiary Finance and  HR committee met on Thursday 2nd September and presented the Financial Report and a draft set of accounts was approved for release to audit. Annual Taiwhenua and Taurahere distributions were recommended. $30k to each of the six taiwhenua and $15k to the taurahere. The Board recognizes Te Reo me ona Tikanga as a high priority and the criteria for the allocated funding is that Taiwhenua and Taurahere hold at least 4 Tihei Kahungunu Wananga throughout the year and increase the number of registered members in each of their respective taiwhenua/taurahere.

RONGOA PRESENTATION

The Kahungunu Rongoa Roopu presented the Board with information about Rongoa and the need for support from the iwi Board. The iwi board endorsed representation on the Kahungunu Rongoa Board as proposed by the Board as follows; Marama Te Hata for Wairoa, Ruiha Stirling for Heretaunga and Kurawari Panere for Wairarapa. Te Maari Joe is the representative on the National Rongo Board.  

METHAMPHETAMINE ‘P’ PRESENTATION

The NKII Board endorsed an in depth presentation given by Denis O’Reilly and Kevin Tamati about the effects of ‘P’ and the need for the iwi to support the overall mahi that is being offered to P addicts and whanau of P addicts. This mahi will fit into the whanau well being strategy.

MAORI BATTALION D COMPANY RESEARCH REPORT

The Board received a special presentation by Amber Logan, on the Kahungunu 28th Maori Battalion D Company Research Mahi that is being done by the research group. The group are looking to gather stories, taonga and any memorabilia from the Maori Battalion Days. This information is precious. 

RADIO KAHUNGUNU

A progress report was received updating the Board on developments.  

 

REGISTRATIONS UPDATE

There are currently 20428 registered members. 42 new members registered between 29th June and 23rd August.
