Ngāti Kahungunu Iwi Incorporated wants to protect our environment. We believe that our environment has a direct influence on the health of our people. We are interested in preserving and protecting our air, water, lands, and our resources for the benefit and survival of our future generations.

In July 2009, twenty four, 12–16 year old Ngati Kahungunu students attended a four day wananga as research assistants that included a field study of Napier Port. During the wananga students learned about biosecurity, environmental issues, research, project planning and matauranga Maori.
