Ngati Kahungunu Iwi Incorporated Staff Pedometer Statistics:

On the 7th March 2005 all staff members received a pedometer and had the opportunity to get familiar with it before actually using it to go live as a team. Each staff member was keen and agreed to go live with statistics. A Chart was placed on the wall of our administration staff work room.  Individual staff were responsible for recording their daily tally.

  • 7 pedometers were issued
  • 2 pedometers were lost within the first two weeks
  • 1 pedometer was faulty and could not be used
  • For the first 3 days everyone was happily recording their steps on the chart
  • In the second and third week 4 people were still recording their steps on the chart
  • By the fourth week three staff were recording their steps on the chart

This indicates an average expectation of how this little pedometer gadget may or may not work for our people. Of the three staff who carried on recording their steps, there are two females and one male. One of the females has a healthy lifestyle and exercises daily while the other female is obese and has diabetes, high blood pressure and a history of heart disease.

Individuals who make a concious effort to change their lifestyles will do so. By setting goals and striving to achieve them, we can all go far and achieve much. The Hikoi for Health - although based on a team effort basis, is very much an individual effort.

For the duration of our Staff Hikoi Challenge we walked a massive: 683 kilometers in six weeks

What now?  HIKOI FOR HEALTH 2005
