partnership between Sport HB
and Ngati Kahungunu Iwi Incorporated was initiated in 1999 with the
Kahungunu Maori Sports Awards held at Matahiwi Marae. The relationship
has grown from that time to the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding
between the two parties at Waipatu Marae mid 2001. The Ngati Kahungunu
Sports Awards have been announced a success and a positive focus for
the iwi to portray Kahungunu role models and achievements.
The
Iwi are part of the Roopu Manaaki Support Group to develop programmes
within the community alongside the Sport HB. Te Rangi Huata and Robert Ropiha are
our representatives within this area. Ngati
Kahungunu Iwi Incorporated provides sponsorship to registered
members who represent Ngati Kahungunu in national tournaments/events
and those who represent New Zealand in international tournaments/events.
