The
late Tohara Mohi was researching at the National Library for documents
relating to the kawa of Kahungunu and came across the Carnell photograph
collection of Kahungunu tipuna. From that he sought to find out
who they were and had a mini display at Mihiroa Marae called "Nohou
Ou Tipuna Pea?"
Kahungunu
Ka moe... Ka puta... emerged from this research and was held at
the Hawke's Bay Exhibition Centre in 2001. At first it was a multi arts disciplinary
exhibition retitled Kahungunu
Ka Moe Ka Puta Te Hononga Mareikura and was hosted at the National Library
in Wellington in 2002. In 2004 it was exhibited at Wairarapa and in 2006 it was exhibited in Wairoa.
Organisers are planning for the exhibition to take place in Tamaki Makaurau in the near future.
