The Ngati Kahungunu Iwi rohe is made up of six taiwhenua that are goverened by their elected marae/hapu representatives.

Marae/hapu representatives on the Taiwhenua Boards are eligible to be elected as a represent of their respective Taiwhenua on the Ngati Kahungunu Iwi Incorporated Board or they can stand for the Chairman position. The elections take place every three years.
