| A
Marae is a traditional meeting place for a hapu or group
of hapu.
A hapu is
a collective group of persons affiliated by whakapapa
to a Ngati Kahungunu hapu ancestor. The hapu shall be
recognised by adjacent hapu and may affiliate to one
or more Marae.
There
are around 90 Marae in the Kahungunu rohe.
Every
marae is unique and is governed according to the kawa
and tikanga of the hapu.
Whenever you
visit any marae, it is common courtesy to respect and
value the tikanga of that marae.
