Do you want to be involved in shaping the Iwi direction and be eligible to access Iwi initiatives?

Then register and become a member of Ngati Kahungunu Iwi Incorporated.

Who is eligible?

  • Any person who affiliates by whakapapa to any Ngati Kahungunu hapu or marae or
  • Any Maori who normally resides in the rohe of Ngati Kahungunu is eligible to become registered (Constitution clause 7) as a member (Constitution clause 6) of the Ngati Kahungunu Iwi Incorporated.

Statistics

The 2006 NZ Census and Local Government statistics show that 59,946 people or 12 percent of the Maori population, belong to Ngati Kahungunu. This was 8394 more than at the 2001 Census.

Why Register

  • To enable Ngati Kahungunu Iwi Incorporated to identify and access those registered people who are entitled to benefit from distribution, scholarship, and other assistance
  • To enable Ngati Kahungunu Iwi Incorporated to identify and access those registered people who are able to offer skills and/or services
  • To enable Ngati Kahungunu Iwi Incorporated to identify and access those registered people who are eligible to participate in Ngati Kahungunu Iwi Incorporated elections
  • To enable Ngati Kahungunu Iwi Incorporated, on behalf of Taiwhenua and Taurahere Runanga to identify and access those registered people who are eligible to participate in those organisations
  • To add to the Ngati Kahungunu Whakapapa database.
  • To enable Ngati Kahungunu Iwi Incorporated to develop communications networks including dissemination of valuable information.

Registration Officers can be contacted at the Ngati Kahungunu Iwi Incorporated office, 304 Fitzroy Avenue Hastings, The management of the registration database is reported at Board meetings held at the iwi office on a monthly basis.
