NGĀTI KAHUNGUNU IWI INCORPORATED AGM PĀ SPORTS
This year marked the 19th Ngāti Kahungunu Iwi Incorporated AGM Pā Sports event, and we are excited that it was a fabulous day.
The AGM hui was well attended and finished within two hours with robust kōrero. Chairman Bayden Barber shared a fabulous report summarised as follows:
Summary
The past year has been one of resilience, unity, and progress for Ngāti Kahungunu. We honoured those who have passed, welcomed new board members through our Triennial elections, and acknowledged the dedicated service of those who stepped down. Despite national challenges and legislative pressures, our iwi has remained steadfast, strengthening governance, reaffirming our values through the Kahungunu 2050 strategy, and ensuring accountability and transparency. The voices of kaumātua, rangatahi, and whānau have guided our path, shaping priorities that place wellbeing, cultural revitalisation, and collective strength at the heart of our journey.
Looking Ahead
Major achievements across housing, education, economic development, environmental kaitiakitanga, and cultural initiatives reflect our commitment to whānau wellbeing and intergenerational prosperity. With robust financial performance and prudent investments, we continue to reinvest in social and cultural outcomes. The establishment of the Kahungunu Health Authority signals an exciting new chapter in iwi‑led health and wellbeing. As we move forward, we call on our people to remain engaged and united, ensuring that Ngāti Kahungunu thrives today and for generations to come, guided by whakapapa, kaupapa Māori, and the aspirations of our mokopuna.
Splash Planet
Whānau lined up to enter Splash Planet at its opening hours at 9.30am. It was a beautiful view to see so many families come to enjoy a day out in the sun together. Just wonderful! There were so many children, but it was calm, relaxing, joyful listening to the music, and just so nice to see everyone at the pools together.
Sports and other activities
Whānau came to participate in Kiddies Sports, Touch, Volleyball, Netball, Ki O Rahi, Pickleball, and Basketball at the surrounding venues, and in the main sandpit, marae competed against marae for the 2025 champions of the year. Euchre was also played, and 6 teams challenged each other for the over win, and all players received a back scratcher made in Thailand, or a shoe horn made in China. It wasn't about the prize. although they were selected with much care, for our kaumātua gamers, it was most certainly about the win hehe.
Free lunch and water
The day was about sharing, caring and giving. Kai was distributed to anyone who wanted a feed. We are pleased as organisers that we were able to support 4 kura preparing to participate in the new year kapa haka competitions.
Karaoke
We had music going all day. It was neat to hear our talented singers and dancers, offer their voices to the day. So fabulous to hear our whānau singers from Wairarapa through to Wairoa. Just so awesome to have the sounds pumping.
