Mandate
Ngāti Kahungunu Iwi Incorporated is a mandated iwi organisation with the authority to represent the people of Ngāti Kahungunu and is the Governing body for all aspects of Iwi development.
Governance Board
The Ngāti Kahungunu Iwi Incorporated organisation is governed by a board or representatives from the six areas within the Kahungunu rohe, two representatives from the Taura here northern and southern districts, a kaumātua representative, and a chairman. The board members are elected into their positions and meet regularly to discuss iwi matters moving forward. The board is governed by a constitution.

Annual Planning and Board Priorities
In September 2001 Ngāti Kahungunu Iwi Incorporated met with Kahungunu whānau at the marae (marae hikoi), taiwhenua (Board meetings), and a number of hui to allow whānau to share their aspirations and contribute to the 25-year vision (to 2026) for Ngāti Kahungunu Iwi. Information from these hui was gathered and collated into the Ngāti Kahungunu Iwi 25-Year Vision. The organisation continues to align its Annual Plans and work projects to the 2026 Vision.
