Ngāti Kahungunu Iwi Incorporated makes a big deal out of Waitangi Day because it's one of the largest national day events in the country.
Waitangi Day commemorates a significant day in the history of New Zealand. It is a public holiday held each year on the 6 February to celebrate the signing of the Treaty of Waitangi.
This event attracts thousands to a showcase of home grown entertainment, food stalls, arts and crafts, social sports, whānau relay races and kapa haka at the spectacular 30 hectare Hawke's Bay Sports Park in Hastings.
This year sporting codes will include Hockey, Touch, Netball, and Ki O Rahi,

Hawke's Bay Sports Park
This year we have added to our sports Rugby League. The sport codes are Netball, Ki O Rahi, 3 on 3 Basketball, Touch and Rugby League. Each competition is run independently in the surrounding fields and courts by Sporting associations.
If you are a marae team, you are welcome to contact Sport Hawke's Bay to link into their Marae Fit Programme which is an initiative that encourages more Māori to be more active more often.
