HB Sports Park

Ngāti Kahungunu Iwi Incorporated makes a big deal out of Waitangi Day because it's one of the largest national day events in the country.

Waitangi Day commemorates a significant day in the history of New Zealand. It is a public holiday held each year on the 6 February to celebrate the signing of the Treaty of Waitangi.

This event attracts thousands to a showcase of home grown entertainment, food stalls, arts and crafts, social sports and kapa haka at the spectacular 30 hectare Mitre 10 Park in Hawke's Bay.

This year sporting codes will include 3 on 3 Basketball, Ki O Rahi, Touch, Netball and Rugby League 9s

Waitangi Day Health Promotion aims to support the aspirations of Ngāti Kahungunu Iwi Incorporated's "Te Ara Toiora o Ngāti Kahungunu Wellbeing Strategy" to promote strong vibrant healthy whānau, hapū and iwi through increased knowledge and understanding of health and wellbeing.

Health Goals for Waitangi Day:

  1. The key message for this year is 'Make Summer Unstoppable’ Campaign to keep COVID-19 at bay!! Click here for more information..

  2. Whānau will have access to health material to make better informed choices for being responsible for their own health initiatives.

  3. Whānau will be more aware of local health promotion services and activities they can access to support their own health and wellbeing initiatives.

  4. We will create a healthy environment of options and assist whānau in applying their agency to choose better options for themselves.

  5. We will supply a water truck and encourage whānau to bring their water bottles to help keep hydrated.,

  6. Fresh local fruit will be on site for whānau to help themselves to free fresh healthy fruit.

Present your Iwi Membership Card at the Iwi Kiosk on the day to get your $5 FOOD VOUCHER to use on Waitangi Day only at our food stalls. We will also have an eftpos machine available for food vouchers if you
